As an established board-certified podiatrist, published author, lecturer, and educator, William D. Spielfogel, DPM, is a trusted foot and ankle expert. Dr. Spielfogel cares for patients at Hamilton Foot and Ankle Associates’ offices in Upper East Side Manhattan and Bay Ridge of Brooklyn, New York.

After earning his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine from the prestigious New York College of Podiatric Medicine in New York City, Dr. Spielfogel went through rigorous patient care training. He completed a competitive foot and ankle surgical residency program through New York College of Podiatric Medicine affiliated hospitals.

Dr. Spielfogel went on to become board certified in foot surgery through the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery. He holds a certification in extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT) for noninvasive treatment of soft tissue injuries. Additionally, Dr. Spielfogel maintains professional memberships with the American Podiatric Medical Association, the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons, and the New York State Podiatric Medical Association.

Outside of the clinic, Dr. Spielfogel serves as the Chief of the division of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery, Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Lenox Hill Hospital - Northwell Health. He is even the vice president of The Foundation for Podiatric Medicine, an educational, scientific, and research branch of the New York State Podiatric Medical Association.

Dr. Spielfogel also co-chairs the New York State Podiatric Medical Association’s clinical conference in New York City. This conference provides continuing foot and ankle medical education to over 1,000 podiatrists annually.

Being affiliated with both Lenox Hill Hospital and Maimonides Medical Center give Dr. Spielfogel the opportunity to provide care for patients in some of New York City’s most technologically advanced hospitals. Meet Josephine Kleyner, DPM

As an experienced foot doctor and skilled surgeon, Josephine Kleyner, DPM, provides preventive care, chronic disease management, and minimally invasive surgical solutions. Dr. Kleyner treats patients at Hamilton Foot and Ankle Associates, which has offices in Upper East Side Manhattan and Bay Ridge of Brooklyn, New York.

After earning her Bachelor of Science at New York’s Stony Brook University, Dr. Kleyner attended graduate school. She went on to complete her Doctor of Podiatric Medicine from the New York College of Podiatric Medicine in New York City.

Dr. Kleyner then went through an intensive three-year podiatric medicine and surgery residency program at the NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital, as well as the Lower Manhattan Hospital. She ultimately served as chief resident.

Because of her dedication to continuing education and always providing the latest foot and ankle treatments, Dr. Kleyner became board certified in foot surgery and reconstructive rearfoot and ankle surgery through the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery. She has special interests in diabetic wound care, limb salvage, trauma, sports, injuries, plastic and cosmetic surgery, foot and ankle reconstructions, and pediatric conditions.

Dr. Kleyner maintains professional memberships with the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons, the National Association of Professional Women, and the American Podiatric Medical Association, among others. She’s affiliated with Northwell Health Lenox Hill Hospital and NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital.

As the only daughter to immigrant parents from Ukraine, Dr. Kleyner is proud to serve the community in which she grew up. She’s fluent in both English and Russian.

 

Meet Zhisheng (Chasen) Shao, DPM

Zhisheng (Chasen) Shao, DPM, is a foot and ankle surgeon dedicated to delivering comprehensive surgical and nonsurgical care focused on relieving pain, restoring function, and helping patients return to the activities they value most.

Dr. Shao graduated with Honors from the University of Pennsylvania, earning a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry with Honors.

He then went on to earn his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine from the Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine. He went on to complete his Podiatric Medicine and Surgery Residency with Reconstructive Rearfoot and Ankle Surgery (PMSR/RRA) at One Brooklyn Health, where he served as Chief Resident.

Dr. Shao has a special interest in reconstructive foot and ankle surgery, including deformity correction, fracture management, revision surgery, and limb preservation. He treats a wide range of foot and ankle conditions, including but not limited to sports injuries, arthritis, bunions, hammertoes, plantar fasciitis, tendon and ligament injuries, and diabetic foot disorders.

For non-surgical concerns, Dr. Shao provides advanced office-based treatments for conditions like fat pad atrophy, plantar hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating), plantar warts, heel pain, fungal nails (using a multimodal approach with novel laser therapies), and painful calluses. He prioritizes exploring all non-surgical therapeutic options before considering surgery.

Dr. Shao maintains professional memberships with the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons and the American Podiatric Medical Association. He’s currently affiliated with Lenox Hill Hospital- Northwell Health.

With five marathons under his belt as an endurance athlete, Dr. Shao deeply understands the physical demands on the feet and ankles.
